Fave Romantic Movies
Here they are, in alphabetical order. I'll add to these as I find new ones to love:
- Bodyguard
- I love everything but the non-happily-ever-after ending.
- Dangerous Liaisons
- Not much of a romance, but I do love the costumes and the inside look at Georgian society.
- Don't Tell Her It's Me or The Boyfriend School
- The title depends on where you get it. This movie's great because it's about romance novel writers, readers, etc., and because it's based on a romance novel, The Boyfriend School, by Sarah Bird.
- Emma
- The movie version with Gwyneth Paltrow and the delicious Jeremy Northam.
- Ever After
- It's the Cinderella story and it has Dougray Scott—what's not to like?.
- First Knight
- Some really romantic parts, although not the best telling of the Arthurian story.
- How to Steal a Million
- With Audrey Hepburn and a young Peter O'Toole; hilarious and very romantic.
- Jane Eyre
- The 4-hour BBC Timothy Dalton production, although I also love the old black and white version with Joan Fontaine and Orson Welles.
- Much Ado about Nothing
- The Kenneth Branagh movie version; he does Shakespeare better than anybody, and I think this is the most romantic of Shakespeare's comedies.
- Music from Another Room
- Jude Law tempts fate and finds love; a real heart-tugger.
- North and South
- Ah, Richard Armitage. Is there ANYTHING he can't make riveting? I'd already fallen in lust with him in the new BBC series "Robin Hood," but with this four-hour mini-series based on Elizabeth Gaskell's Victorian novel, I fell in love.
- Pride and Prejudice
- The 6-hour A&E version with Colin Firth.
- Pride and Prejudice
- The movie with Matthew MacFadyen. I can't decide which of these two I like better!
- Persuasion
- The movie with Ciarán Hinds.
- Sabrina
- Yes, that's where I got my pseudonym; I just LOVE that movie, and not the old version either, but the new one with Harrison Ford and Julia Ormond.
- Someone Like You
- Hugh Jackman—yum! Very romantic.
- The Long Hot Summer
- The Don Johnson four-hour TV version; yummy.
- The Princess Bride
- Funny AND romantic; besides, Cary Elwes is fabulous.
- While You Were Sleeping
- First got me hooked on Bill Pullman.
